The organizers of the WRTC2018 are happy to announce that ICOM inc. will support the WRTC2018 as Platinum Sponsor. The Japanese company has been leading in the development of novel techniques for short wave and vhf/uhf equipment for several decades. The company‘s close links to contesting can be seen in the initiative of the ICOM Contest Team and the support of the Contest University. As the main sponsor ICOM America had a great share in the success of the Olympic Games for radia amateurs in the WRTC2016 in New England.

Ray Novak, N9JA, Senior Sales Manager of ICOM America stated: “ICOM fully understands the importance of the World Radiosport Team Championship as a founding sponsor with the 1990 event in Seattle. We are proud to have been a Platinum Sponsor in the WRTC 2014 and now the WRTC 2018 as this segment of the hobby is more of a lifestyle with incredible fellowship as well as fierce competitiveness.”

Michael Höding, DL6MHW, Vice President of the WRTC 2018 Organizing Committe underlined: “It is a great pleasure for us that ICOM will become Platinum Sponsor for the WRTC2018. Already at the WRTC2014 we were overwhelmed by the easy-going positive readiness that was mirrored in our negotiations during the Hamvention 2015. The extraordinary commitment of ICOM means an enormous step forward towards the WRTC2018.” On top of the direct support of WRTC2014 and WRTC2018 ICOM will provide top teams with equipment. The winners of WRTC2014, for example, used ICOM transceivers thus contributing to the further development of top technology.

WRTC 2018 e.V. would like to express its gratefulness for this most generous support.

IP_System_bigLubianiec Piechocki i Partnerzy (LPP S.A.), one of the largest textile retailers in mainland Europe has introduced Icom’s new IP Advanced Radio System to provide two way communications for its main European distribution centre.   The company is one of the latest organisations to see the many benefits of Icom’s innovative system that works over WLAN and IP Networks.

LPP S.A. based on Gdansk, Poland has purchased IP100H communication handsets together with a IP1000C IP Advanced Radio System Controller for its distribution centre.  The system will provide communication between management and staff allowing them to meet despatch deadlines and targets.

Benefits of this system

  • System installation throughout the whole building was completed quickly and efficiently because the company could use their existing wireless LAN network.
  • Communication range of IP Radio System covers the distribution centre fully, regardless of fire proofing walls which were “obstacles” against their old wireless communications.
  • No licence was required for the IP Radio System.
  • Future system expansion will be easy. With Icom’s VE-PG3 RoIP gateway, the IP Radio System can interconnect with other technologies including IP phones, analogue radios and digital radios.

Innovative IP Communication System for Inshore Lifeboats June 16, 2015

DSC_0202Maritime Systems Integrator, Neptune Waterproof have devised an innovative communication system for inshore lifeboats that uses Icom’s IP Advanced Radio System to provide an encrypted wireless (full duplex) intercom. Hope Cove lifeboat is the first UK Inshore Lifeboat to use Icom IP wireless technology and it is interfaced with the vessels Icom IC-M506 VHF radio.

The communication system provides four crew members full VOX intercom functionality for situational awareness so they can all hear any incoming VHF comms. Transmission is done by the coxswain or navigator pressing a large 50mm PTT on the console. This sends their voices to the VHF Radios and closes the PTT circuit so the VHF transmits.

The launch tractor driver is equipped with a standard IP100H IP two way radio handset to communicate with the crew for launch and recovery. There are forward and rear facing directional antenna mounted on the rear gantry for launch/recovery and comms with crew deployed to vessels under tow.

The IP100H has been modified to fit in a sealed side pod of a Gecko MK11 marine safety helmet. The IP100H has also been modified so that there are separate ‘power’ and ‘volume’ switches on the side pod and the LCD screen is presented through the side pod so the crew can see current helmet settings. An additional 2000mAh battery provides realistic all day comms on a single charge. The helmet features a 200Ohm dynamic noise cancelling mic. with two 1 Watt 8 Ohm speakers.

James Bignall, Managing Director of Neptune Waterproof said, ‘This is the very first of its kind in the UK and we are pleased that the Hope Cove team are very happy with the way the system works!’
